Problem
You are going to be creating and composing the newsletter of you. This newsletter will only be read by your teacher unless you allow it to be put up in the room or on the website. This assignment will be two pages long with a total of six columns. The purpose/objective of this assignment is to pull together all the elements that have been learned or will be learned in Microsoft Word. Listed below are the titles of each column and ideas for what you can write in each column. Note that you do not have to include everything under each section. They are just ideas if you can't think of your own.
Columns 1-3 (Page 1)

Ideas: State your personal and future goals. What are your long term goals, short term goals, and daily goals? What do you want to do with your life? WHY? What kind of job do you want? WHY? Ideas: What achievements have you earned? What things are you proud of having done? Have you won any awards that you are proud of? Have you won any contests? What did you win? Tell us about any positions in any organizations that you might have held? |
Ideas: What hobbies do you have? Do you play on any sports teams? What activities do you do after school? Do you belong to any clubs or school organizations? Be sure to give details about each hobby that you do. In this column you are telling me about the things you like to do, whatever they might be. |

Ideas: Tell me about the places you have been and/or the places you would like to visit someday. Think about family vacations and things that you would like to see someday (Grand Canyon, the North Pole, or Mars for example) the sky is the limit. Be sure to tell me why you want to go to these places. |
Ideas: Tell me about your parents, siblings, pets, or family. This includes any member of your family whether they live with you or not. Remember that family does not just mean blood related. Anyone you consider a part of your family you may write about. You may choose to write about your entire family or just a single person/pet. The choice is yours. |
Ideas: Here you will create a bulleted list of your favorite things (minimum is 15). This list may have multiple themes. Example: 5 favorite books, Top 5 movies, Top 10 actor/singers, Top 5 video games, etc. This list can be about anything just be creative. |
Page Setup
- Create a three column setup.
- The header will include the following:
- Your name
- A picture of you (from any age)
- A famous quote
- A logo or picture that represents you
- A line that will be placed below your name and will span the page
- Another line will be placed by the quote and will span the page
Include The Following
- 5 "real" pictures that have been scanned or taken with a digital camera. These pictures must be placed within your text with the text wrapping around them. Do not place them all at the bottom or top of your columns.
- All real pictures must be placed in a or in front of a shape. Do not just use rectangular shapes.
- 1 cartoon strip or cartoon character that has been scanned or downloaded from the Internet must be placed in your newsletter.
- 3 pictures from the Internet. Pictures must relate to what you have written in your newsletter.
- Listed below are all the pictures you need:
- 5 Pictures of You/Family
- 1 Comic
- 3 Internet Pictures
- 1 Photo of You in the Header
- 1 Picture Representation in the Header
- One pull quote that partially spans two columns. A pull quote is a quote taken from your own newsletter. It must be interesting but short. This will be placed in a text box. The text box must be filled with a texture or picture.
- Each column must be filled with text. That means there should not see any white space at the bottom of your columns.
Use The Following Formatting
- Columns are to be written in paragraph style and should be justified. Indent (tab) each paragraph that you write.
- An outside border must be placed around both pages of your newsletter.
- Headings for each column cannot be any larger than size 18-font. You may use any font (or WordArt) that you wish for the column headings, newsletter title, and your name.
- The text for each column cannot be larger than size 14 font but can be as small as size 8.
- At least one picture must be made into a watermark or placed behind the text.
- Grammar and spelling count. Be sure to use spell check.
