Computer Applications

Computer Formatting at Yorkville High School

Working with a word processor and an electronic spreadsheet has become a standard in many jobs today and at most levels of education. Students will use Microsoft Word and Excel to learn basic skills such as formatting letters, reports, and newsletters along with creating tables and spreadsheets. The students will also utilize Microsoft Powerpoint to learn tips to properly give a multimedia presentation. This course is designed to educate students for the "real world" and to make them more successful in their core classes by teaching the proper techniques needed with these types of software. The majority of the work for this course will be done in the classroom using a hands-on approach.

Computer Applications I is a prerequisite for Computer Applications II. In the follow up course to Computer Applications I, students will learn about databases using MySQL and will display their data on a webpage using HTML. Students will also learn more advanced functions in Microsoft Excel. Finally, students will learn about the different components of a computer in a weekly, hands-on section that will allow them to build a computer and learn about the various parts including processors, hard drives, and RAM.
